Hauppauge 3, Commack 1: Emily Kaplan scored the go-ahead goal during a scramble following Catherine Vaughan’s corner kick with 33:55 remaining to propel No. 4 Hauppauge (17-2) over top-seeded, unbeaten Commack in the Suffolk Class AA semifinals. Lauren Downey helped seal the win after retrieving a loose ball at the endline and sending a cross to Nicole Scurdero, who scored from the top of the six-yard box with 17:35 remaining. Scudero, who dominated the midfield along with Lauren Mastandrea, opened the scoring from just outside the 18-yard-box with 17:13 left in the half. Commack’s Sydney Pasquarella knocked in the equalizer off a free kick by Alexa Svensson with 5:10 left in the half. Alexis Benedetto had seven saves for Hauppauge, which advances to play No. 2 West Islip in the county final on Wednesday at Dowling. “For us, we were really trying to focus on the things we’ve been doing well all season,†Hauppauge coach Jesseca Kulesa said. “We know our strengths. I was pretty confident with the talent we have up top that we’d be able to get some goals on them.â€
