HIGHLIGHTS
South Side 1, Massapequa 0: Alex McNicholas scored on a free kick from the top of the box with 6:11 remaining to lift South Side to a 1-0 win over two-time defending state champion Massapequa in a non-league match. Ally Diez sent a through ball down field to a charging Jolie Creo, who was taken down from behind to set up the free kick. Kayla Klarides made nine saves, including a lunging, one-handed punch save late in the first half. With Klarides off her line to break up a play, South Side defender Katherine Parker stopped a shot in the open net, deflecting it with her upper body, with 12:25 remaining to keep the game scoreless. "Our back four played amazing, and Kayla saved us a bunch of times," McNicholas said. "Massapequa is always one of the best teams we play and every year we want to beat them. I think it's really a confidence booster. We're going to keep working as hard as we can because now we know how good we are."
