Hewlett 1, Plainedge 0: Roy Schwartz took advantage of a faulty clearing pass and scored in the 34th minute for No. 15 Hewlett (8-5-2) in a Nassau Class A first-round game. It was just the second goal allowed by previously-unbeaten and second-seeded Plainedge (11-1-2) all season. "It was a big win for us," Hewlett coach Nick Lacetera said. "Plainedge was a phenomenal team. . . . We knew going into the game it was going to be a battle." Hewlett goalkeeper Laurent Dorviller made six saves in the shutout win, and Nick Joie had four saves for Plainedge. "We knew we would get a couple of opportunities. . . We have the talent, and we're good enough to be there. I have a lot of faith in my boys. We're talented and we're up for challenge. They want to make something happen, something special."
