Matthew Payamps ran a US No. 1 time of 2:25.03 winning the Invitational 1000-meter run at the VA Showcase at Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia. His time is a new Long Island record, breaking James Burke's 2015 record of 2:26.75 from Port Jefferson High School. It also establishes a new Catholic Schools State record breaking Sean Kelly's 2014 record of 2:27.39, from Chaminade.
