Mineola 15, West Hempstead 14: James Gerstner hit Brian Smith for an 11- yard toouchdown to give Mineola (4-1) a 15-14 lead with 4:25 left in Conference IV. Mineola forced a turnover on downs with two minutes left when West Hempstead was on its own 40. Smith, while playing outside linebacker, scooped up a fumble forced by Defensive tackle Anthony Sarno and returned it 80 yards to get Mineola to within 14-9 late in the third quarter.
