HIGHLIGHTS
Long Beach 12, Jericho 6: Matt Varian's 20-yard touchdown run in overtime won the game for Long Beach in Nassau II. Nick Nigro's tackle at the 13-yard line on Jericho's opening overtime posession kept the Jayhawks from scoring. "It was a game saving tackle," coach Scott Martin said. Varian's first touchdown, a 12-yard run with three minutes left in the fourth, tied the game at six. Varian, a quarterback, had 150 yards on 16 carries, along with the two touchdowns in a game where the rain fell steadly throughout. "He protected the ball well and came up big when we needed it," Martin said of Varian. "Balls were lose all over. It was a very sloppy game due to the weather." Tyreek Bromley had 40 yards on five carries. Josh Linster caught one pass for 30 yards. Tarik Elfais grabbed another for five yards. Nigro had 25 yards on three carries. He also had seven tackles for Long Beach (1-0). Jericho is 0-1.
