Malverne 38, Island Trees 36: Bryce Todd scored on a quarterback sneak for the game-winning two point conversion in double overtime to lead Malverne in its Conference IV opener. James Choisi scored on a 23-yard rush to tie the game at 36. "Our team was up against a lot of adversity but they pulled it out," said Malverne coach Kito Lockwood. Choisi had 25 carries for 89 yards and three touchdowns, including the opening score and two-point conversion in overtime. "He's a small guy, but he's a workhouse," Lockwood said. Malverne linebacker Kyle Richard had 25 tackles, including 20 solo tackles, and Lockwood said "he's probably the best in the conference." Malverne defensive end Kyle Pinder had two sacks and a fumble recovery and defensive line teammate Kazeem Martelly returned a first-quarter interception for a touchdown. Island Trees quarterback Anthony O'Connell was hit as he threw and the ball fell to Martelly, who ran 32 yards for the game's first score. Island Trees tied the game at 22 with five minutes left in regulation on a 3-yard touchdown run and two-point conversion run. Todd had 10 rushes for 68 yards for Malverne. Bulldogs free safety John Pascalli had two interceptions, a forced fumble that resulted in a touchback, deflected a pass that fell incomplete and added six solo tackles.
