Floral Park 36, Roosevelt 35: After Taliek Nelson made a one-handed catch in the back of the end zone on second-and-goal from the 10-yard line to bring the score within one point for Floral Park, coach Ron Pickett had a decision to make. Rather than going for the tying extra-point, Floral Park went for the two-point conversion and the win.
The Knights went with a trick play, with Drew Stabinsky coming around on a reverse, but passing to Chris Tall in the middle of the endzone for the final play and a successful two-point conversion as Floral Park defeated Roosevelt, 36-35, in Nassau Conference III football.
"We had nothing to lose," Pickett said. "We were a 12 seed. We had nothing to lose and we had them on the ropes a little bit and we practiced that play all week for that type of situation."
Dan Patalano rushed up the middle for a 38-yard touchdown to cap off a four-play, 70-yard drive as Floral Park tied the score at 28 with six minutes remaining in the game.
Chris Naronis completed 9 of 13 passes for 130 yards and two touchdowns and Nelson had six receptions for 80 yards and two touchdowns. Patalano rushed for 102 yards on 15 carries and Jack Nolan and Marco Montreuil each had a fumble recovery inside the Floral Park 20-yard line.
