HIGHLIGHTS
Mepham 28, New Hyde Park 19: Billy Kender had five carries for 57 yards and a 33-yard touchdown run with 1:47 left in the fourth quarter to give Mepham a 27-19 lead in Nassau Conference II. Khristo Shami tacked on the extra point. Kender completed 6 of 10 passes for 51 yards and a touchdown and Sean White completed 15 of 17 passes for 205 yards. Freshman Dom Novello picked off a potential game-tying two-point conversion pass with 4:30 left in the game to preserve Mepham's 21-19 lead. Eric Orbon had a 43-yard interception return on the second play of the game to open the scoring for New Hyde Park. The Pirates answered with a Kenny Franquiz 4-yard touchdown run and a 10-yard touchdown reception by Billy Molloy. Franquiz had 15 carries for 97 yards and the score. Jon Dijkstra added a 15-yard touchdown run in the third quarter. Matt Hegi had 15 tackles, Novello added 11 tackles, Jack Savalli added eight tackles and a sack and Griffin Karp had six tackles and an interception.
