Carey 22, Valley Stream Central 18: Mark Spano made a game-saving tackle, stopping Valley Stream Central at the 1-yard line after a completed pass as time expired as Carey held on to win its Nassau II opener. Spano, who had eight tackles in the game, also made a key tackle for a loss within the 5-yard line on the final drive. "He was just gutsy, that's the best way to describe him." Carey coach Mike Stanley. "Big spot, in a big moment like that, we just needed someone to step up and make a play and he made it and it was great." Trailing 18-14, Carey put together an 11-play, 62-yard drive, capped off by Riley DeMeo breaking a tackle and scoring a 23-yard touchdown off a screen pass from Jason Kessler with 3:50 remaining in the fourth quarter. Armani O'Brady passed for 190 yards with a touchdown and rushed for 164 yards with two touchdowns and a two-point conversion for Valley Stream Central.
