Northport 22, Sachem East 21: With three seconds left on the clock, quarterback Ryan Walsh snapped the ball and found Matt Fuggini under pressure for an 8-yard touchdown pass as Northport cut Sachem East's lead to 21-20 as time expired. Northport's first extra-point attempt went through the uprights but the play was whistled dead for an offsides. The following kick was missed, but Sachem East was penalized for a roughing the kicker. On the third attempt, Northport decided to go for the two-point conversion from the 1-yard line and Jeff Joseph finished the run to give No. 4 Northport a 22-21 victory over No. 5 Sachem East in the first round of the Suffolk I playoffs. Northport came to the decision to go for two after gathering the coaches and captains. "I felt like it was a little bit of destiny that twice they wanted to move the ball up," coach Kip Lukralle said. "The second time I felt like we had to." Sachem East took a 21-14 lead on Justin Stelmach's 1-yard quarterback sneak with 1:06 remaining in the game. Bobby Labatto returned the ensuing kickoff to Northport's 48-yard line with 59 seconds remaining. "It was just incredible," said Lukralle, who has been coaching football at Northport for 32 years. "Been around a long time and have to admit, that was one of the more exciting finishes. It's a shame anyone has to lose a game like that."
