Half Hollow Hills East 14, Smithtown East 10: Senior Drew Martin ran for 75 yards to help the Thunderbirds run out the clock on a third-and-7 from its own 5 with under a minute left in Suffiolk II. Martin had 120 yards on eight carries as Hills East (2-0) overcame a 10-0 deficit. The Thunderbirds defense had goal-line stands to end the first half and late in the fourth quarter. Senior linebacker Ernesto Mitchell had 10 tackles, including 4 for a loss. He had a stop on a fourth-and-goal from the T-Birds' 2 late in the game. Mike Brown added eight tackles, and senior safety Conor Caiazza's had an interception at the Bulls' 40 that set up the winning drive. Brandon Peskin had two PATs and added a key touchback after Kendall Nero-Clark's 85-yard kick return for a touchdown with eight minutes left in the game.
