HIGHLIGHTS

Half Hollow Hills East 15, Copiague 14: Jason Coppedge broke up a two-point conversion pass by Copiague with 2.6 seconds left to seal Hills East's win. Junior Jason Spinelli was 5 of 9 passing for 86 yards, including scoring passes of 51 and 15 yards for the fifth-seeded Thunderbirds. The latter found senior Nick Volpe, who added 34 yards rushing, and a two-point conversion run that gave the T-Birds the winning margin with 2:20 remaining in the game. Hills East's top two players were injured and did not play in the second half. Senior QB Kenny Chavez left midway through the first quarter with a lower-leg injury and did not return according to coach Mike Maratto. Senior RB Josh Garvin added 27 yards rushing on six carries, but had to leave early in the second quarter with cramps. He did not play the rest of the game. Junior Ernesto Mitchell had 10 tackles, and Michael Gunther, Donte Jarvis, and A.J. O'Gorman all had sacks. Tyrone Browne caught a 10-yard TD pass from Ronald James with 2.6 seconds remaining. But Coppedge broke up a two-point conversion pass that would have given the 13th-seeded Eagles the win. James had a 90-yard kick return for a touchdown, and threw a two-point conversion pass to give Copiague an 8-7 lead in the third quarter.
