Centereach 14, Smithtown West 7: Centereach running back Alec Kiernan scored a late touchdown to help give his team to a late Suffolk II victory over Smithtown West to open the season. Kiernan found the end zone on a six-yard run to give Centereach the winning score with just under five minutes remaining in the fourth quarter. Kiernan carried Centereach offensively, racking a total of 255 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 29 carries. Kiernan opened the scoring with a 69-yard touchdown run in the first quarter. Smithtown West quarterback Zach Policino, who finished 4-17 passing with 117 yards, one touchdown and one interception, brought the game even with a touchdown pass later in the first. Centereach quarterback Jay Morwood totaled 42 yards and two interceptions on 4-10 passing attempts in the win. Defender Rob Montgomery forced Centereach's lone takeaway, as he came up with an interception.
