West Hempstead 42, East Rockaway 7: Tommy Cannisi ran for 140 yards and two touchdowns on 13 carries to lead No. 5 West Hempstead (6-3) over No. 4 East Rockaway (5-4) in the first round of the Nassau IV playoffs. He broke through for a 34-yard touchdown run to give his team a 14-0 lead in the second quarter. The Rocks drove down 80 yards on their first drive of the second half and Ryan Sandberg threw a 24-yard TD pass to Noel Beaubrun to go up 21-0 with 7:33 left in the third. Michael Staines recovered an onside kick, leading to Vinny Messina's TD run to take a 28-0 with just under four minutes left in the third. Messina ran for 81 yards on nine carries and led the defense with seven tackles. West Hempstead plays the winner of No. 1 Locust Valley and No. 8 Malverne Thursday at Hofstra.
