After a scoreless 1st half for both teams caught in a defensive struggle, Huntington broke the drought with a goal by sophomore Anna Wickey at 24:11 of the 2nd half. Both teams defenses continued holding each other scoreless until a corner penalty was called on Huntington with 12 seconds remaining and, as the clock kept ticking down, time expired. After 3 consecutive corner plays by Smithtown with no time on the clock, a stroke was awarded to Smithtown. Senior midfielder Captain Brooke Vitulli broke the Huntington junior goalie Kaitlyn Sage's shutout after 60 minutes of play. Both teams were held scoreless in overtime, resulting in a shootout. Following 2 misses by Smithtown, Huntington's Wickey scored again giving them a 1 goal shootout lead. Smithtown responded with goals by their 3 Senior Captain's, midfielder Emily Montagnino, midfielder Natalie Condzal and midfielder Brooke Vitulli, whose 2nd goal iced the shocking and unlikely Smithtown come from behind victory after regulation time had expired.
