HIGHLIGHTS
North Shore 61, Valley Stream South 32: Senior Gabrielle Zaffiro scored her 2,500th career point on a baseline jumper with five minutes left in the third quarter coach Keith Freund said. She finished the game with 32 points and now has 2,504 career points and is North Shore's all-time leading scorer. The Amherst College signee added nine steals, eight rebounds and two assists, as North Shore led 36-15 at the half. Teammate Jennifer Walton scored all 11 of her points in the second half for North Shore (9-0) Nassau A-IV. "When I first saw her, she was a baggy-shorts, baggy-socks second grader at a basketball camp," Freund said. "It was obvious the kid had talent, but she's also put in a lot of time and effort. It's her love of the game that makes her special." Freund added that last year she skipped junior prom to play in an AAU tournament. "She's a basketball junkie, and an outstanding player, but I'm more pleased with the person she's become," Freund said. "She's everything you want in a high school student and player."
