HIGHLIGHTS
South Side 83, East Meadow 74: Coach Dan Ferrick has a goal for his South Side girls basketball team on offense each game: "Get to 70 (points)." Jourdin Thomas came up with her own goal: score 47. That's just what the senior guard did. Thomas, who had 31 points earlier this week, dropped a career-high 47 points, including eight three-pointers, with five assists for South Side (8-2) in non-league. Thomas shot 17-for-34 from the field. "It wasn't just her shooting all the time," said Ferrick, in his second year as head coach, and 17 years overall. "All her points were in the flow of the game. She was passing the ball, too. It was great." East Meadow, which shot 16 of 23 from the foul line, led 73-72 midway through the fourth quarter, but Thomas scored nine of the Cyclones' final 11 points of the game. Emily Shurina had 29 points for East Meadow. Thomas scored 13 points in the first quarter, 13 in the second, 4 in the third, and 17 of South Side's 21 points in the fourth quarter. "She was on," Ferrick said.
