East Islip 57, Deer Park 41: Alexa Mattera became the fourth player in East Islip girls basketball history to top 1,000 points, according to coach John Caraccia, and the Redmen clinched a playoff berth out of Suffolk IV. Jackie Carty added 20 points and 17 rebounds. Mattera scored 24 points, recording her 1,000th on a layup with 15 seconds remaining. “She has been a staple in East Islip for the last four years,†Caraccia said of Mattera, who has been on varsity since ninth grade. “She has an uncanny ability to get to the rim. She does in it like no other kid on Long Island that I’ve seen.â€
