Bellport 95, West Islip 39: Jarell White scored his 2,000th career point with 3:40 left in the third quarter, draining a basket on a putback shot and sparking Bellport (15-1) in Suffolk III. "He's such a special player," said Bellport assistant coach Kai Watkins. "A lot of young kids, you see their potential and you hope they can reach it. Jarell didn't just do that, he surpassed what we expected." Watkins was also quick to point out that White has only recently added an outside shot to his offensive attack and reached the 2,000-point threshold by, mostly, posting up. "It wasn't until this year that he hit a three," Watkins said. "It's just because of his hard work and determination. He's always in the gym, first one in and last one out." White, who is the twelfth boys basketball player to record 2,000-points on Long Island according to Newsday records, finished with 28 points and 10 rebounds. Devon Balfour also added 19 points and 11 rebounds for Bellport, while Jaylen Trent chipped in 15. Nick Groia and Matt Walsh each scored eight points for West Islip.
