HIGHLIGHTS

Valley Stream South 48, Sewanhaka 47: Despite his team having a tough afternoon from the foul line, Valley Stream South coach Matt Johnson was still positive after Keiron Jeremiah missed the first of two free throws with no time left on the clock. "I was pretty confident," Johnson said. "It's easy to say now, but he's been a good player for us the last two years." Jeremiah, who was fouled on a putback as time expired, calmly hit the winning free throw as host Valley Stream South defeated Sewanhaka, 48-47, in non-league boys basketball, yesterday. Jeremiah, a senior center, had six points, and Ozzy Traill and Daniel Sarpong each had 10 points for South which was 9-for-21 from the foul line. Rahim Akinwomni had 18 points for Sewanhaka. "Our bench went went crazy and they grabbed [Jeremiah] after the free throw," Johnson said. "We had a good atmosphere at home. We had a lot of returning alumni." The win could pay dividends for South. "This is a huge game for our resume," Johnson said. "Sewanhaka is a good team. Hopefully, if we keep playing like this we can do some damage. We have to build off this."
