HIGHLIGHTS
Friends Academy could not repeat its magical run in 2011, when the Quakers won the state Class C championship. This year’s ride ended Friday with a 72-66 loss to Middle Early College of Buffalo in a state Class C semifinal. Middle Early College (19-5) was led by 5-10 guard Kevin Briggs, who scored 31 points, converting 13 of 19 free throws as he was repeatedly fouled on drives. Joseph Staton, a 5-6 sophomore, hit four big threes for the Kats and 6-4 Brian Brown had 18 points and 16 rebounds. Seniors Jack Forlines and Jon Nierenberg, playing their last high school game, led Friends (16-3), the Long Island Class C champ, with 18 points each. Junior guard Tyrone Perkins added 16.
