HIGHLIGHTS
Mount Sinai 3, Sayville 2: Winning pitcher Emma Wimmer surrendered 10 hits and allowed just one earned run with five strikeouts and two walks for No. 3 and visiting Mount Sinai in a Suffolk softball Class A double-elimination final on Monday. Mount Sinai (21-4) handed No. 2 Sayville (20-2) its first loss in the playoffs. The two teams meet again at Sayville at 4 p.m. Tuesday in a winner-take-all Suffolk A final. A two-run, one-out single by Ilexa Skulnick gave Mt. Sinai a 3-1 lead in the third. The Golden Flashes, whose only other loss this season came on May 10 (also to the Mustangs), scored in the sixth on an RBI single by Angie Capuano. But Wimmer did just enough against Sayville to force one final game. The Golden Flashes left a runner on base in every inning but the second, and stranded nine base runners in all.
