HIGHLIGHTS

Portledge 14, Solomon Schechter 2: Winning pitcher Carly Kleinwaks was 2-for-3 with a two-run home run as host and No. 2 Portledge knocked off top-seeded Solomon Schechter in the PSAA softball championship. It was the second straight title for Portledge (8-2). Kleinwaks' home run highlighted a nine-run fourth inning that saw Portledge send 13 batters, who registered 10 hits. "Our senior girls led the way for us," said Portledge's second-year coach Anthony Bruno. "They were our strength the whole season. They are an unbelievable team that got better and better every day. I'm a proud, proud coach to see how much they've grown." Portledge had 20 hits in the title game. The top six Portledge hitters went a combined 17-for-22 at the plate, including sophomore Alyssa Genzel (3-for-4), senior Kamila Roberts (3-for-4, two RBIs), senior Kleinwaks (2-for-3), senior Grace Dima (4-for-4, two RBIs), senior Marissa Stanco (2-for-4, three RBIs) and freshman Brooke Hubert (3-for-3). Portledge had lost, 13-8, against Solomon Schechter on April 23 in the regular season after holding an 8-6 lead. "We used that game to motivate us today," said Kleinwaks, who allowed just three singles with six strikeouts. "We played our hearts out. It was a great, great game. It was really amazing, and I'm so proud of the team."
