Sacred Heart vs Our Lady of Mercy

Monday April 03, 2017 at Our Lady of Mercy

Overall 13 - 3 | Conference 12 - 1

Overall 6 - 9 | Conference 6 - 9

HIGHLIGHTS

Our Lady of Mercy 4, Sacred Heart 3: Freshman pitcher Rosie Foster knocked down a low line drive and threw to first base for the final out to get out of a no-out, bases-loaded jam, and help host Our Lady of Mercy hold on for a win against the defending CHSAA champs, Sacred Heart. "It was right up the middle," Mustangs coach Sr. Meghan McArdle said. "The fact that Rosie could keep that calm as a freshman, and be that cool-headed, is amazing." Foster allowed three runs and six hits with seven strikeouts and five walks for OLMA (2-0 CSHAA) who tied its win total from last season. After Sacred Heart (1-1) took a 1-0 lead, the Mustangs sent 10 batter to the plate in the bottom half of the inning. A double by Maggie Donnelly scored Meagan Atkinson to tie the score for Mercy. Four batters later and with the bases loaded, Foster's double to deep left field cleared the bases and made it 4-1. Sacred Heart added two runs in the fourth and pulled within, 4-3. The Spartans loaded the bases with no outs, but Foster induced a pop out and strikeout before her heroics with her glove. "It was bases loaded and no outs, and we could have crumbled," McArdle said. "But they showed how together they are, and how much they support each other." Especially for a team that won just two games a year ago. "They've shown great strides as well as a maturity and a cohesiveness that, regardless of wins and losses, has really help them to be their best," McArdle said. "This is the joy of sports, on any given day anything can happen. That's why we play."
