HIGHLIGHTS
Islip 3, No. 4 Hampton Bays 2: Maddie Feddersen retired the final 10 batters she faced, and teammate Alexis Freudenberg doubled in Ginger Sherry for the winning run in the fifth inning for No. 3 Islip in a Suffolk A loser's bracket final against No. 4 Hampton Bays.
Freudenberg had two hits and scored Islip's first run. Feddersen struggled a bit early, but was rock-solid when the Bucs needed needed her. The junior allowed five hits with six strikeouts, two walks, and two earned runs. It was Islip's first game since its first playoff loss on Saturday to Mt. Sinai. "We responded very well," Islip coach Dennis McSweeney said. "[Hampton Bays pitcher] Marley Tyler was tough, but we broke through and gutted out a win." Islip trailed 2-0 early, but scored once in the fourth, and two in the fifth, including a sacrifice fly by Samantha Seeger that brought it Victoria Locamy for the tying run. Islip (20-4) travels to top-seeded Mt. Sinai at 4 p.m. today. If Islip wins, it forces a winner-take-all final on Friday. Mt. Sinai has not lost yet in the postseason, which is double-elimination. Interestingly, Islip handed Mt. Sinai (21-1) its only loss of the season, 2-1, on May 10 at Mt. Sinai.
