HIGHLIGHTS
East Islip 11, Eastport-South Manor 8: Lexi Kneisel went 2-for-4 with a grand slam in the third inning to give No. 1 East Islip a 9-2 lead early in the Suffolk Class AA loser's bracket final. Kneisel also scored two runs. Cate Ropiak struck out five over a complete game to earn the win, adding a 2-for-2 line with two RBIs from the plate. Kate Vessalico's RBI single in the third inning gave East Islip a 3-2 lead. Alexa Leonard had two RBIs. Brooke Springsteen went 2-for-4 with a triple for Eastport-South Manor (20-5). Alyssa Murnane and Hannah Jaccard both had two hits. East Islip (17-7) will face No. 2 Smithtown West in the Class AA county championship Saturday, May 31, at 12:30 at Martha Avenue Field Complex. Game 2 will be on Monday, June 2, if East Islip wins.
