Carey 5, Garden City 2: Lauren Peers scattered four hits over seven innings and struck out nine while also driving in the go-ahead run with a squeeze bunt in the bottom of the sixth to lead No. 6 Carey past No. 11 Garden City in the opening round of the Nassau Class AA playoffs. Madison Seidl went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs for Carey (9-11). Carey will face No. 3 Mepham at 5 p.m. on Thursday. Kaitlyn Santopietro hit a game-tying solo home run in the top of the sixth inning for Garden City (14-4).
