West Islip 3, Smithtown East 2: In the bottom of the sixth, West Islip struck first, starting with a double from Camryn Mariano that helped lead No.4 West Islip over No. 9 Smithtown East in the Suffolk AA elimination game. Katie Fix drew a walk and Makayla Comer moved both over with a single. Annie Chambers put a hard ground ball in play, scoring Mariano. Caitlyn Herzing singled to score Fix and Comer. Herzing fought off a seventh inning rally by Smithtown East to strand the tying and go ahead runs at first and second, assisted by a diving catch at third base by Fix to end the game. Herzing struck out seven over seven innings to earn the win. West Islip (19-4)) will play host No.2 Lindenhurst at 4 p.m. tomorrow in the next round of the elimination bracket at Lindenhurst.
