Wheatley vs Carle Place

Wheatley 8, Carle Place 3: Nick Sampogna's single in the top of the fourth inning drove in Will Farrar to break a tie at 3 and lead No. 1 Wheatley (19-3) past No. 2 Carle Place, in a sweep of the best-of-three Nassau Class B final series. Will Feil's single drove in Sampogna in the next at-bat to extend the lead to 5-3. Feil scored on a wild pitch later in the inning to cap a three-run fourth. Sophomore Matt Cleary entered in relief with two outs in the bottom of the third with the scored tied at 3, and struck out of the final batter of the inning. Cleary pitched 4.1 innings, struck out four, allowed three hits, no runs and no walks to earn the win. Feil also had two-run double in the top of the sixth to drive in Sampona and Farrar for the final two runs of the game. Evan Gitlitz went 2-for-3 with an RBI in the win. Wheatley (19-3) will face East Rockaway Thursday at SUNY-Old Westbury at 4 p.m. for the Nassau BC championship, and will face the Suffolk Class B winner Thursday, May 31st at SUNY-Old Westbury for the Long Island B championship.
