Carle Place 9, Malverne 4: Kyle Pellegrino struck out six in four innings of relief for the win as No. 2 Carle Place (8-9-1) swept the semifinal series in Nassau Class B against third-seeded Malverne (6-13-1). Richie Vento struck out eight in three innings on Tuesday before the game was stopped in the bottom of the fourth because of lightning. Matthew Morrison was 2-for-3 with three runs, three RBIs and four stolen bases, and Chris DeVeau was 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBIs and three stolen bases for the Frogs, who face the Oyster Bay-Wheatley winner on Saturday at noon, weather permitting.
