Ward Melville 6, Smithtown East 0: In his first varsity playoff appearance, sophomore Ethan Farino pitched a complete game three-hitter with 71 pitches, allowed no walks, and struck out four to lead No. 1 Ward Melville over No. 9 Smithtown East in the Suffolk Class AA playoffs. Michael Sepe had a two-run double in the bottom of the fourth to give Ward Melville a 4-0 lead. Kyle Rafferty went 2-for-4 with an RBI for the Patriots (19-3). Ward Melville will host Smithtown East in an elimination game, Monday at 4 p.m. The winner will move on to face No. 4 West Islip in the Suffolk AA semifinals.
