West Islip 3, Smithtown East 2: Ray Webber went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and hit a go-ahead solo homer in the sixth to put No. 2 West Islip (21-4) ahead 3-2 in its Suffolk AA semifinal win over No. 3 Smithtown East. Starting pitcher Jimmy Mattera pitched six innings, allowing four hits and no earned runs with two strikeouts. Mattera was was replaced by Webber in the seventh and moved to leftfield. With two outs in the inning and a runner on second, John Marti singled to Mattera in left, who threw out the potential game-tying run at home plate to end the game. West Islip will host the winner of No. 5 Smithtown West/No. 8 Northport Saturday at noon.
