East Islip 1, Hauppauge 0: Tyler Clehane hit a home run leading off the top of the eighth to lead No. 6 East Islip (18-5) over No. 3 Hauppauge in a Suffolk AA baseball quarterfinal. East Islip will play No. 2 Ward Melville in a best-of-three semifinal beginning at noon Saturday. Brendan Dowd threw out Nick Fanti trying to steal second base to end the game. Mike Demarest threw a seven-hitter with one walk and eight strikeouts on two-days rest and moves to 9-0 on the season. Fanti went 3-for-3 with a walk and threw a two-hitter with 12 strikeouts and two walks. Clehane's home run was only the second extra base hit and fifth earned run Fanti allowed in 52 innings this season.
