HIGHLIGHTS
Chaminade 10, St. Dominic 0: Brendan Spagnuolo tossed a no-hitter striking out seven while issuing four walks to lead Chaminade (11-4) over previously unbeaten St. Dominic (11-1) in CHSAA. The senior, who is headed to Vanderbilt, got ahead with batters utilizing his 94-mph fastball and mixed in his curveball and changeup, coach Michael Pienkos said. One St. Dominic batter reached base on an error.
"For them to get no-hit, that's kind of surprising," Pienkos said. "He had pretty good command and kept them off balance. He pitched a smart and they never really threatened."
The hardest hit ball against Spagnuolo, Pienkos said, was a line drive foul ball down the right field line in the sixth.
"To be honest, I didn't even know it was a no-hitter at that point," Pienkos said. "I went over to the book and they didn't want to tell me. If he has command, he's very hard to hit because he's throwing the ball 93, 94 mph." Stratton Podaras belted a three-run double in the third inning to put the Flyers up 4-0. Luke Zeccola went 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs.
