HIGHLIGHTS
East Islip 4, Smithtown West 3: Lucas Patton hit a go-ahead solo home run in the top of the fifth inning to lead No. 5 East Islip over No. 2 Smithtown West in a Suffolk Class AA elimination game. Jaden Schmidt struck out seven in 5 1/3 innings to earn the win and John Talt struck out two in 1 2/3 innings of relief to earn the save. East Islip scored three in the top of the first on RBI groundouts from Brady Kneisel (scoring Gavin Veltman) and Lucas Patton (scoring Alex Ciampi) and Alex Johnston drove in Thomas Costarelli on a two-out single. East Islip (15-6) will visit No. 4 West Islip in an elimination game at noon on Sunday. Mike Cascione went 2-for-3 with two runs and a RBI double for Smithtown West, which finished 17-6.
