Matt Maier delivered a pinch-hit RBI single started a five-run rally in the fifth and carried Plainview to the win in the deciding Game 3 victory of the Nassau AAA quarterfinal series. The No. 2 Hawks (17-6) took the series 2-1 and open a semifinal series against No. 3 Farmingdale at home on Sunday. Ryan Kurre had a two-run inside the park homer, Jake Gruttadauria hit a mammoth solo shot that landed on the far side of the roof of the equipment warehouse in centerfield and Michael D'Ambrosio had three RBI for Plainview. Nick Blette had a two-run single in a three-run rally in the fourth inning that tied the game 3-3 for oceanside (11-12).
