HIGHLIGHTS
Sayville 5, Bayport-Blue Point 2: Jack Davis hit a three-run homer in the fifth inning giving No. 5 Sayville (16-6-1) a cushioned lead and the win over No. 7 Bayport in the consolation bracket of the Suffolk Class A quarterfinals. Brock Murtha hit a solo home run, his ninth of the season, in the fourth inning for the first run for Sayville. John Gaconnier was 2-for-2 with a walk, a double and an RBI aiding in the extra run score in the sixth. At the top of the seventh, Eric Foster came in for relief with one out and two runners on base, first and second. Foster gave up the first hit leading to a bases loaded situation. The next batter hit a fly ball to center field, which Tommy Nielsen caught. The runner on third tagged up and Nielsen threw the ball to catcher Jack Quinlan, who blocked the plate for the final out. Sayville faces No. 4 Hauppauge Sunday at noon. Sayville needs to beat Hauppauge twice to move on to the finals.
