Sirico opened the scoring with a 44-yard scramble on a broken pass play on the team's first possession, finding a seam up the middle and avoiding tacklers to reach the end zone. Sirico, a junior, had a 20-yard touchdown pass on his one attempt and 11 carries for a career-high 153 yards and one touchdown while operating out of a wildcat offense for No. 1 Sayville which defeated No. 8 Kings Park, 41-14, in a Suffolk III quarterfinal. Sirico had a 60-yard TD run on Sayville’s first offensive play. “In the beginning of the week we had to modify our offense,” Sayville coach Rob Hoss said. “It was a little slow at the beginning but as the week went on the entire team and Zach got more comfortable. By Thursday we really felt like we had a good game plan.” Ferreira played in four series and was 4-for-9 for 134 yards and one TD, a 68-yard strike to James Rupp with 1:54 left in the first half, and had three carries for 11 yards and two TDs while wearing a face shield. Ferreira, who broke the Long Island career passing yardage record earlier this season, suffered a broken nose on the first play of last week’s 18-6 win over Kings Park. Hoss said Ferreira did not practice all week and was cleared to play on Friday. “I wanted him to be able to go in the game get his feet wet,” Hoss said of Ferreira. “I didn’t want him to miss two weeks and go into a semifinal game. “We made sure that we max protected for him. His two touchdown runs I wasn’t thrilled about because I didn’t want him to leave the pocket but he said ‘I’m fine, I’m fine.’” John Haggart had seven carries for 96 yards and a TD with two sacks, Tom Hannan had a 20-yard touchdown reception and an interception, Ethan Cooley had a fumble recovery and Pat Waters made nine tackles for the Golden Flashes. Kings Park finishes 4-5. Ferreira is expected to be at 100 percent next week when Sayville hosts No. 6 Harborfields in the semifinals at Saturday at 1 p.m.
