Jake Biro had 15 carries for 155 yards and two touchdowns, Brendan Hegarty had 21 carries for 162 yards and a touchdown, and Brendan Dooley had four carries for 103 yards and two touchdowns. Trailing 16-6 in the second quarter, the Patriots scored three straight TDs to take the lead for good. Dooley had an 88-yard run where he made a few defenders miss and ran up the sideline to make it 16-13, a Biro nine-yard score gave Ward Melville the lead, and a 20-yard TD reception by Dooley from Biro made it a two-score game. Hegarty capped the scoring with a 32-yard TD run up the middle to make it 41-29. Biro completed nine-of-12 passes for 121 yards and a score, and Dooley also had three catches for 43 yards with his TD reception. In a game where 78 combined points were scored, it was Ward Melville’s defense that secured the victory in the end. Patchogue-Medford (3-4) had 1st and Goal from the Patriots’ six-yard line with 1:40 left in the fourth quarter trailing 41-36, but Ward Melville’s defense forced four incomplete passes to regain possession and close out the game. Matt Corrie led Ward Melville with 12 tackles.
