Highlights: Valley Stream Central 48, Port Washington 35: After both teams went back and forth through the third quarter, Valley Stream Central (1-0) pulled ahead and never looked back when Laton Butler capped off a three touchdown performance with a 5-yard score to put Central up 42-35 with 5:15 left in the third quarter in Conference I. Butler carried most of the load on the team’s 58-yard winning drive as part of his three touchdown, 235 rushing yard-campaign. Quarterback Kwesi Harrison had 190 rushing yards and three touchdowns, and threw for 55 yards on 4-of-4 passing with one touchdown. Harrison sealed the game with a 42-yard run with three minutes left in the game to keep the final drive alive after Port Washington burned its final timeouts. As a team, Central had 453 yards rushing and 498 yards of total offense. Butler’s first touchdown was a 64-yard run that he took up the middle, breaking three tackles en route to the end zone.
