With No. 5 Mercy (7-2) leading 22-15, Carbone hit Trey Kennedy for a 30-yard TD reception to cut the lead to 22-21. On the ensuing PAT, Carbone, Hampton Bays' kicker, lined up for an extra point but instead took a direct snap and rolled right looking to pass for the two points. Mercy's Jack Strnad chased Carbone toward the sideline where Luis Cintron and Reggie Archer shoved him out of bounds at the two-yard line to preserve the lead. Mercy trailed 15-14 with 3:10 left in the fourth, when Thomas Kent broke a tackle and rushed in the go-ahead TD from eight yards out. Quarterback Asiah Wilson added the two-point conversion to make it 22-15. Kent had 131 yards on 14 carries while Wilson ran for 79 yards and two TDs on 16 carries and completed four-of-eight passes for 53 yards. Mercy earned its first playoff win since 1991, when it beat Southampton 13-6 in a Suffolk IV quarterfinal. Mercy also won seven games in a season for the first time since 1978. Mercy advances to the semifinals, while Hampton Bays, the fourth seed, finishes at 5-4.
