Highlights: One year removed from falling just short of a county title, Hauppauge’s Julie Williams wasn’t going to let her team lose. The senior scored 39 points in Hauppauge’s 66-63 overtime victory over Copiague in the first round of the Suffolk AA playoffs. The mark is a school playoff record, according to Coach Jamie Edson. Williams scored 43 points in a regular season victory over Smithtown East earlier this year. Through two playoff games (Hauppauge beat Smithtown East in the outbracket round), Williams is averaging 36 points, 13 rebounds, and eight steals, according to Edson. "I don't think there's been a better two game playoff performance, that I can remember, in Suffolk County,” Edson said. “These two games have been unbelievable." After helping the Eagles erase a 14 point third quarter deficit, Williams scored all seven of Hauppauge’s overtime points. Her two foul shouts with four seconds left in the extra period gave the Eagles a three point lead. “She’s strapped the team on her back," Edson said. Katelyn Rorke scored all nine of her points in the fourth quarter. (13) Hauppauge will try and keep their season alive when they play the winner of (5) Commack/ (12) Huntington on Wednesday. After finishing the regular season 13-4, the Eagles see themselves as a tough out, despite the seeding. "Our kids have taken that as a little bit of a slap in the face." Edson said of the 13 seed. “But we’ll see what happens.”
