HIGHLIGHTS

Port Washington 4, Calhoun 3: Priyanka Ninan and Daisy Aguilar defeated Claire Murphy and Niamh Woods in the deciding third doubles match to lead No. 2 Port Washington (14-1) over No. 1 Calhoun in the Nassau County Championship. This is Port Washington's second straight county championship after winning a share of the Conference I title for the third year in a row. "Playing in Conference I, we face the toughest competition so we went into the playoffs already tested," coach David O'Connor said. "Things just fell into place. The girls worked very hard and played with great enthusiasm and they were thrilled to get another championship." Seniors Laura DeBruin and Holly Hubsher won at second doubles. Junior Elizabeth Kallenberg won at first singles to finish the year with a 19-1 record and juniors Avanti Shroff and Rachel Hanford won at first doubles to finish 18-2, giving O'Connor a strong returning cast. "We have a great group returning, so I'm already looking forward to next year," he said. O'Connor also acknowledged his seniors: "We have have four seniors who've had a great run. They've won three straight conference titles and two straight county titles so I'm very proud of them."
