Commack 2, Smithtown East 0: Kiersten Carlomagno pitched a complete game, one-hit shutout, while striking out 14 and walking two to lead No. 2 Commack (18-2) over No. 15 Smithtown East (11-10) in its Suffolk Class AA first round win. Carlomagno went 1-for-3, with an RBI single, scoring Julie McDonald, who doubled earlier in the bottom of the first inning, to give the Cougars a 1-0 lead. Kristen Andrews singled leading off the bottom of the sixth, before stealing second, and scoring on Erin Morrissey's RBI single for the game's final margin. Commack will host No. 10 Sachem East (15-6) in the second round at 4 p.m. on Wednesday.
