East Meadow 6, Carey 0: Kerri Shapiro threw a no-hitter, striking out 10 and walking three. Shapiro also hit a home run in the sixth inning to give the Jets a 6-0 lead. "Her rise ball was moving," coach Stew Fritz. "She hit her spots today and was very tough to hit." It was the first no hitter of the junior's career. "She didn't know at all," Fritz said. "She was surprised when we told her. Some of the players knew, but she didn't." When she was told after the game of the accompishment, Shapiro was as cool as she had been in the pitcher's circle. "She took it in stride," Fritz said. Claire Travis went 3-for-3, including a two-RBI single in a four-run fourth inning. Danielle Cutuli went 2-for-2 with two RBI for East Meadow (8-3) in Conference AA-I.
