Massapequa vs New Hyde Park

Friday March 15, 2013 at New Hyde Park

Overall 12 - 7 | Conference 7 - 5

Overall 14 - 6 | Conference 9 - 3

HIGHLIGHTS

Massapequa 3, New Hyde Park 0: Senior Renee Vaiano threw a no-hitter with 15 strikeouts and Natasha Macri was 2-for-2 with an RBI, one run scored and a walk to lead Massapequa (1-0) in non-league. "This is what we expect out of her this year – to do great things," Massapequa head coach Steve Donovan said. Vaiano - who will be playing at St. Rose next season - was helped by the left side of the infield - freshman second baseman Kelly Lalier made a diving stop in the hole early in the game before running down a flare behind second base for the games final out. First basemen Emily Gaeta also made a superb play, corralling a line drive one step to her right to preserve the no-hitter. Vaiano walked five but was in control the entire game. "On any given day she can go out there and shut down teams," Donovan said.
