HIGHLIGHTS
East Islip 8, Commack 2: Allison Dell’Orto celebrated her 16th birthday Saturday with a sweet 3-for-3 effort from the lead-off spot with two doubles and three runs scored to guide top-seeded East Islip to a home victory in a Suffolk AA winner’s bracket semifinal against defending champ and No. 5 Commack (17-5).
It was a rematch of last season’s Class AA final that Commack won, 6-1, on May 28. The Redmen (21-1) now host the winner of No. 3 Deer Park and No. 7 Whitman at 4 p.m. Monday. East Islip has outscored its playoff opponents, 38-1, in three postseason games. Dell’Orto, who was the No. 2 hitter during the regular season, was flip-flopped with former lead-off hitter Alise Colandro before the start of the playoffs.
Seven of the nine East Islip batters had either a hit, a run scored, or an RBI led by Jackie Carty, who was 2-for-3 with three RBIs.
Winning pitcher Courtney Greene, who had two RBIs at the plate, scattered eight hits and allowed two earned runs with nine strikeouts and three walks.
Ariana Arato, Emily Fox and Kelly McKenna had two hits apiece for Commack, which faces the loser of Deer Park/Whitman at 4 p.m. Tuesday.
