Pierson/Bridgehampton 6, Port Jefferson 3: No. 1 Pierson/Bridgehampton captured the Suffolk Class C championship with a win over No. 2 Port Jefferson as Kasey Gilbride went 3-for-3 with two RBIs and one run. Samantha Duchemin pitched a complete game, allowing three unearned runs and three hits. Pierson/Bridgehampton (11-7) will play Wednesday in the softball regional Class C championship against the Westchester region winner. "We're young, we graduated a lot of seniors last year and I don't know the method to madness this year, but we got it done," said coach Melissa Edwards. "Samantha Duchemin was definitely the heartbeat of our team. A lot of our success goes to her because of what she's been able to do for us. She's pitched every game and pitched well, and she's our cleanup hitter."
