Island Trees 8, Clarke 7: Alannah Basile hit an RBI single to tie the score at 7 and scored the winning run from second base on a ball thrown in the dirt during a bunt by Sam Scharff in the bottom of the eighth inning to lift No. 2 Island Trees (16-5) over No. 6 Clarke in Game 1 of the best-of-three Class A semifinals. Karly Ziegler hit a two-out RBI double to even the score at 6 in the bottom of the sixth inning. Kelly Cembrale went 3-for-3 with two RBIs, including a two-run single as Island Trees erased a 4-0 deficit during a four-run third. Sarah Cornell struck out 15 batters for Clarke. Game 2 is at 4:30 on Wednesday at Clarke.
